Post Applying this idea to flux rather than paint
on: February 11, 2012, 07:59

Having previously spilt a bottle of Carr’s red label flux all over my work bench, Al Cutmore’s idea for embedding a paint bottle in plaster really struck a chord. I took his idea for paint bottles and applied it to a bottle of flux. Instead of moulding a hole in the plaster as a brush holder (as the flux would dribble down the handle), I bent up two wire cradles which would hold the brush horizontally as shown in the accompanying photos. The only other thing worth commenting on is the brush. It is all plastic (99 cents from a Toyworld store). There is no ferrule clamping the bristles to the handle and therefore no metal to react with the flux. You just need to take care when applying flux to hot metal to make sure the bristles don’t melt.
